Brief summary of a recent meeting of Czech and Austrian IPF specialists.
The original idea was that Czech IPF specialists would come to the Otto-Wagner-Spital in Vienna, visiting its Department of Pulmonary Medicine and looking at the practical aspects of IPF patient management by the local team of pulmonary specialists. Due to technical reasons, however, the originally intended programme could not be materialised. Instead, the meeting was based on lectures dealing with various IPF issues. In particular, the Czech IPF experts have appreciated experience of the Austrian transplantation team. The Austrian surgeons perform transplantations not only in Austrian citizens but also in citizens of other European countries in which transplantation programmes are not available; post-transplantation care as well as treatment of potential complications can also be ensured.
